Long famous for its Key Marco Cat - one of the most remarkable and influential discoveries in North American archaeology- the new Marco Island Historical Museum will explore Southwest Florida's Calusa Indians and bring this vanished civilization to life with informative displays and an exciting recreated village scene. Temporary and traveling exhibits trace the settlement of this subtropical island paradise from its early pioneer roots as a fishing village, pineapple plantation and clam cannery, through its explosive growth and development in the 1960s by the Miami-based Deltona Corporation.

The Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society operates a two thousand square foot conservation laboratory that specializes in conserving underwater archaeological artifacts. This means all the artifacts that are either recovered from our archaeological expeditions or are donated are conserved on premises.

Archaeological Site and Living History Museum. Mission San Luis transports visitors to a community where Apalachee Indians and Spaniards were drawn together by religion, military and economic purposes. Today visitors to San Luis discover a re-created colonial town including a Franciscan church, friary, Hispanic village, Apalachee council house and a fort, Castillo de San Luis. A new visitor center houses a catering hall seating 250, theatre, classrooms, and a gift shop.
