Mission

The Meigs County Pioneer and Historical Society, aka the Meigs County Historical Society is a non-profit 501(c)3 and exists to further historical education in Meigs County, Ohio. To this end it maintains a museum for collecting, preserving and interpreting archival materials and artifacts indigenous to Meigs County; encourages historical research; issues publications; sponsors displays, symposia and special events; is concerned with the preservation of historical buildings and sites, and raise such funds needed to carry on the day-to-day operations and purposes of the society.

History

Meigs County Historical Society organized in 1876 and Meigs County Museum opened in 1971.

Collection of artifacts relevant to the history of Meigs County - Household, Agriculture, Mining, Clothing, Military, River, Manufacturing, Sports.

Research Collections

Extensive historical and genealogical archives for Meigs County, (including early Probate Records)as well as researchable archives for surrounding areas.

Programs

Day Camp for Youth, lectures, student programs and workshops, youth group archival care workshops.
