Description

The History Place captures the past of Carteret County through exhibits, displays, programs and publications. Artifacts date to the 1700's. Exhibit gallery, research library, museum store, auditorium, banquet room, conference room and tea room on site.

Mission

Our mission statement is: To foster and promote public knowledge of, and interest in, the history and culture of the peoples of Carteret County and related areas through the collection, preservation, interpretation, and documentation of written and tangible artifacts and remains.

History

Established in 1971 and opened as a museum in 1985. Outgrew previous building and moved downtown to a 12,000 sq foot historic building. Operated by one full time staff and 100 volunteers.

Artifact Collections

Dates to 1700 and 1800s and are items relavant to Carteret County's history.

Research Collections

Jack Spencer Goodwin Research Libray has more than 8,000 publications, 100 archival boxes of manuscript materials and an extensive picture file.

We have programs year-round for children and adults.
