Described as "a hidden gem" of local cultural, natural and prehistoric history for lower DeKalb and upper LaSalle Counties.

Mission

To preserve and display local history. We are seeking more involvement with local schools.

History

Mr. Olmstead gave the museum to Somonauk about 1950; his original collection started about 1920.

Artifact Collections

Historic costume, prehistoric and Amerindian tools, Victorian handicrafts, shells, coins, preserved animals, antique furniture, lighting, agricultural artifacts

Research Collections

photos, letters, ledgers, books, genealogies.

Programs

Tours for school classes or for organizations are available at no cost.
