Historical Society was formed in 1979. It started out in a library, then a house and now has a muuseum building, a history house and a Trona Railway Museum.

The Library provides a historical research center devoted to the study of the Pacific Southwest. The botanical collections of the Garden features over 100 different species of plants. There is also the tropical conservatory and the Discovery Garden.

The Stowitts Museum & Library's focus remains on the history of dance and theater, people and art of the 20th century.

3,000 of the collection's historical and contemporary dolls and teddy bears are on display at the current time. Many of the items are limited editions or one-of-a-kind creations by some of the world's leading doll and teddy bear artists. Visitors love the way the items are displayed in large glass-fronted cases, as well as the beautiful murals in the tea area where customers can enjoy a complimentary cup of tea or coffee. In the future we hope to add changing displays and eventually to sponsor programs by doll and teddy bear artists. The Director also hopes to publish a series of books covering the holdings of the Library.

The San Diego Aerospace Museum was the first aviation museum to be accredited by the American Association of Museums and is considered one of the top five aviation and space museums in the nation.
