Gather around the relief map to see how vast Lake Mead is and to learn about the land before Hoover Dam was built.

Founding by steamship engineer James P. Allaire, our fully interactive early 19th century village is truly a travel back in time...into NJ's early history. Located in the beautiful depths of Allaire State Park in Wall Township, the trees will part and our village with it's hardworking villagers will come alive before your eyes. The Annie Riggs Memorial Museum is open six days a week, and is located at the corner of Main and Callaghan (number 3 on the historical tour). Visitors can experience a thriving desert garden at the back of the museum, inviting benches on the wrap-around porches and an interior courtyard with a restored Pecos County buggy.

The Allegheny Portage Railroad has many interesting things to see. Visit the Lemon House- a historic tavern built to accommodate travelers. Discover the Engine House- a replica of the many buildings that made up the Portage Railroad. Watch a movie in our visitor center and browse the many exhibits and models. Drive out to the Staple Bend Tunnel unit to hike and explore the nine hundred foot tunnel (remember you need to walk 2 miles each direction when visiting the tunnel).

The 544-acre estate is composed of gently rolling hills divided into a farm complex, hayfields, pasture, man-made and natural ponds, and forests. Each spring, the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve comes alive with the seasonal surprises of the Mojave Desert Grassland habitat.
