The Gaines County Museum is a history museum that is striving to capture the history of Gaines County, Texas, by telling and showing the story of the five distinct cultures that have impacted the development and history of Gaines County since the arrival of its first indigenous visitors.

The George Ranch Historical Park is a 480-acre living history museum at the center of a working 23,000-acre ranch established in 1824. Owned by The George Foundation and managed by the Fort Bend Museum Association, the park presents the lives of four generations of Texas families that owned and worked the ranch: an 1830s Austin Colony stock farm; an 1860s plantation-ranch (under development); an 1890s complex that includes the mansion of the ranch owner, an African-American sharecropper farm, cattle pens and railroad loading facilities (under development), and a working blacksmith shop; and the 1930s ranch house and ranching complex. The park serves nearly 100,000 visitors annually, including almost 40,000 school children from 57 school districts in a 16 county area.

Goliad SHS administers four historic sites in the vicinity of Goliad. Mission Espiritu Santo is a restored Spanish Colonial Mission, with a museum detailing the lives of the Native Americans and Spanish priests who lived there during the 1700's. The unrestored Mission Rosario is located nearby, and is the subject of ongoing archaeological study. Zaragoza's Birthplace celebrates the life of General Ignacio Zaragoza, hero of the May 5, 1862 Battle of Puebla (Cinco de Mayo). Located approximately 9 miles east of Goliad is the Fannin Battleground. On this site in 1836 Colonel James W. Fannin and his troops were captured after a pitched battle by Mexican forces led by General Jose Urrea.
