Historical Society

Organized in 1951, the Cheshire Historical Society is a group of old and new residents who have a desire to discover and preserve the heritage of Cheshire, Connecticut. They educate and assist others in their inquiries into our past and promote a love for our town and its inhabitants.

Our first home was in the 1st. District School (1951-1956), then the old Cheshire Public Library (Williams House) on Main Street (1956-1972). We are presently located at the Hitchcock - Phillips House on the Cheshire Green, as shown above.

Through hands-on, minds-open, fun experiences, The Children?s Museum engages the wonder and discovery of children and supports families as first teachers. The Museum offers free parking and is within walking distance of the many fine restaurants and shops of West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square. With its iconic mascot Conny, a 60 ft. replica of Connecticut?s state mammal the Sperm Whale, greeting visitors, the Museum offers numerous science and nature activities and programs for children and families.

Connecticut Ancestry Society members are responsible, ethical genealogists and family historians who share a special interest in southwestern Connecticut and its neighborhood, either by living there, or by having ancestry there, or both; who pursue genealogical scholarship through networking, educational programs, and publication of reference materials and research results; and who extend full cooperation to other genealogical organizations, record repositories, and public record custodians.

The Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum was established in 1991 as a chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society, with the desire to create an all Volunteer, Non-Profit museum, where people can experience and learn about the majesty and power of Eastern Connecticut's, and the Nation's, railroading history.
